Welcome to One Vascular
We understand that medical procedures can feel overwhelming. Below, we’ve explained three important vascular ultrasound procedures that can make a big difference to your vascular health.
Carotid Duplex Examination: Safeguarding Against Stroke Risks
What is it?
A Carotid Duplex Examination is a non-invasive and painless ultrasound test that focuses on the carotid arteries in your neck. These arteries are like highways that carry blood to your brain. This test helps us find any blockages or narrowing, which if left untreated could lead to a stroke.
What to Expect
The Carotid Duplex Examination is a straightforward test that takes about 30 minutes, and doesn’t require any special preparations. We recommend wearing a loose shirt with an open neckline for comfort. During the test, you’ll lie down on an examination table in a dim room while our highly skilled technologist examines you.
Receiving Results
We understand the importance of timely results. That’s why we prioritize efficiency. Your physician will have results in about two working days, ensuring a quick evaluation and follow-ups.
Possible Symptoms
It’s important to be aware of signs and symptoms that might suggest a blockage in your carotid arteries, including:
- Carotid bruit (a noise or murmur in the neck)
- Loss of balance
- Vertigo (dizziness)
- Aphasia (difficulty speaking)
- Numbness or weakness on one side of your body
- Amaurosis Fugax (temporary vision loss in one eye)
- Syncope (fainting)
Venous Doppler Examination: A Window Into Your Vascular Health
What is it?
A Venous Doppler Examination uses ultrasound to give a clear picture of your veins. It helps diagnose conditions like blood clots or Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). It can also be used to measure vein size, which is critical information needed to plan certain surgeries.
Potential Symptoms of DVT
- Limb swelling
- Pain or tenderness
- Sudden shortness of breath (in some cases, a pulmonary embolus, or lung blood clot, can result from a leg clot breaking free and travelling to the lung)
Peripheral Arterial Doppler Examination: Evaluating Blood Flow to Your Extremities
What is it?
A Peripheral Arterial Doppler Examination is a non-invasive ultrasound test that looks at the blood vessels in your arms and legs. It’s a powerful tool for diagnosing arterial diseases, blockages, or reduced blood flow.
What to Expect
A Peripheral Arterial Doppler Examination is a straightforward test that doesn’t require special preparations. You’ll rest comfortably while our skilled technologist uses ultrasound to assess the blood flow in your arms and legs.
Receiving Results
We understand the importance of timely results. Your doctor will have them promptly, so any necessary evaluations and discussions can happen without delays.
Possible Symptoms of Arterial Disease
It’s crucial to pay attention to potential signs of arterial issues, including:
- Cold or pale extremities
- Weak or absent pulses in the arms or legs
- Non-healing sores or ulcers
- Pain or cramping during physical activity
At One Vascular, your health, well-being, and peace of mind are our top priorities. Our caring team is here to guide you through these procedures and answer any questions or concerns. Your vascular health is not just important; it’s our number one concern.
Vascular Physiologic Diagnostic System
We use the viasonix falcon/pro peripheral diagnostic tool along with ultrasound. This advanced technology allows us to measure segmental blood pressures, ankle brachial indices, toe brachial indices, doppler, pulse volume recording, photo-plethysmography, and stress testing.
